Todd Myers of the Washington Policy Center — one of our sister think tanks based in Washington State — presented recently in Albuquerque and Santa Fe on “Eco-Fads”: How the Rise of Trendy Environmentalism Is Harming the Environment. His presentation powerpoint is available online.

Rob Nikolewski of Capitol Report New Mexico did a brief interview as well.

    The “free market” is a myth and 3 minuets into this video you proved so your selves!

    If you want people to pay for negative impacts on the environment(such as putting sewage in streams) that means government regulations & enforcement.

    Kudos to the Rio Grande Foundation for inviting a contrarian voice. Mr. Myer is right that we readily jump on the environmental bandwagon, but now and then we should look into whether our actions produce positive results. Government can play a valuable role by setting the rules based on sound science rather than political considerations. The free market has produced efficient and creative solutions when presented with a predictable regulatory environment.
