I don't know that Lovelace is performing poorly. They are paying taxes and attempting to compete with a publicly-funded entity (UNMH). There is a reason the Postal Service dominates and there is a reason that no one competes with the government to build roads. There is certainly a role for UNMH, but we want to make sure they are not attempting to use their taxpayer-funded advantage to eliminate competition.

I think the biggest question is whether an expansion of the hospital in Albuquerque is necessary to serve their primary populations and whether they will be using the new wing to unfairly compete with their private-sector competitors.
The largest "not for profit" Hospital routinely makes $150 million per year. UNMH routinely spends $150 million on free care.
UNMH does not turn anyone away, and despite that can afford to build this needed addition. The entire project has been subject to numerous open meetings. What is the real issue?
